Eurospeak Facts
1992
Eurospeak started in 1992 with 2 evening classes per week of
English as a Foreign Language (EFL) for au-pair girls working
with families in the Reading area about 80 km to the west of
London. The evening lessons expanded and the college started
lessons on Saturday mornings.
1993-1997
By the start of 1993 the college began to respond to the demand
for lessons in the mornings and soon had classes operating every
morning and every evening throughout the week. Eurospeak built
up its reputation by employing good teachers, having reasonable
prices, being friendly and helpful and organizing activities of
interest to the students. As the demand grew the college began
to support students who needed student visas and so, in the
space of just 4 years, Eurospeak was an international college
welcoming students from all over the world as well as helping
immigrants to learn to speak better English for their new lives
in UK.
1998
In 1998 the college became a recognized exam centre for
Cambridge English exams.
2002-2003
In 2002 the Director realized how important it is to give
everybody the opportunity to learn to operate a computer and so
the college added a new discipline of IT studies that have been
of help and interest to lots of students and in 2003 Eurospeak
became a recognized centre for OCR (Oxford, Cambridge and the
Royal Society of Arts) IT exams.
2009 - Present time
In 2009 when the new visa regulations were introduced, we were
accredited by ASIC and licensed by the UK border Agency as an
international college. From just 5 students in 1992, the college
has now grown tremendously with students from over 70
nationalities studying at its campus. One of the major reasons
for the success of the college is its focus on increasing
employability of its students. The college has also built very
strong links in the industry for its Hospitality and Business
courses.
Vision
Eurospeak’s prime objective is to give all its students the best
of opportunities in their lives. The college aims to impart to
its students skills which are necessary for success in todays
competitive world.
With a good command of English as the language of international
communication and skills to successfully manage people, we hope
that our students will lead successful and happy lives wherever
they choose to live and work. The college works towards creating
integrity and harmony between students belonging to various
nationalities from all over the world in order to achieve
overall development of community.
Campus
Eurospeak operates currently out of two buildings. The school
started in the Greyfriars Centre where we taught and still teach
in rooms that are ideal as classrooms. The centre also has a
large hall which we use for exams and student activities and
which can also be used as a lecture hall.
Greyfriars church is the oldest Franciscan church still in use
as a place of worship in the UK, and is said to be the most
complete surviving example of Franciscan architecture in
England. As a consequence, it has been listed as a Grade I
listed building by English Heritage. It has been used as a
poorhouse, a hospital and a jail. The Centre which was built
just beside the church 30 years ago is a centre for many
activities throughout the week.
The college also has another building which houses the main
school office and classrooms. Eurospeak has been operating out
of this building since 2002. The two campuses are only 50m apart
and are situated right in the centre of Reading, Berkshire just
6 minutes walk from the main train station and right on the main
bus routes.
