A visa for studying in UK is generally required by all students
from outside the European Union i.e. EU. The UK Border Agency
has introduced the new Points Based System (PBS) of immigration
and all students coming from outside the EU must apply under
Tier 4 PBS.
Information on how to apply is at your local British Council
office or can be found on the website
www.ukvisas.gov.uk. You can also download the application
form from the website.
The Home Office categorises all the non-EU students under
a) Visa Nationals
b) Non-Visa Nationals
This distinction is arrived upon on the basis of your
nationality -

For Visa Nationals
Applying for Visa irrespective of the duration of course before
coming to UK is compulsory
For Non-Visa Nationals
Course less than or equal to 6 months an option to apply for
entering and staying in UK is present on arrival in the country.
However, it is always recommended to apply for the Visa before
arrival in UK.
Courses more than 6 months- need to apply for Visa before
arriving in UK.
Requirements for Applying for Student Visa
- Visa application form (VAF9- PBS Migrant) along with PBS Appendix 8 General Student Self- Assessment form [ available at
www.ukvisas.gov.uk]
- CAS number issued by Eurospeak
- Original academic documents mentioned on your CAS
- Proof for funds needed by you to support your course fees and
living expenses while stay in UK. This is equivalent to your
course fee pending for the year one of the course plus living
expenses equivalent to £600 per month to a maximum of 9 months.
